Does anybody know whether the v. 1.6.1 Data Analyzer package will download data from the original ARTS1? I ask because I have recently purchased an ARTS2 and installed the v. 1.6.1 software on my computer, and now, neither the old v. 1.3.1 software or the new software package will connect to a COM port will unload data from either the ARTS or ARTS2. Both software packages inform me that they cannot connect to COM1 (or COM2, or COM3, or COM4) as soon as I start them up. I suspect that the two software packages are somehow interfering with each other and I am inclined to uninstall 1.3.1 and re-install 1.6.1, but I would like some assurance that I could get data off of my ARTS(1) if I do that. I have a hunch your suspicion is correct: the two version probably are interfering with each other. If you are uncomfortable updating the ARTS1 firmware, or run into any problems, please feel free to send it to me for re-programming. The "cannot connect to COM1" means that, for some reason, Windows is denying the use of COM1 to DataAnalyzer. Try using HyperTerminal to connect to COM1, it should give you the same error. I have seen Windows sometimes incorrectly "detect" serial devices, and then assign them the port, effectively locking the port. (usually this can be seen in Device manager as a "Microsoft Ballpoint Mouse") Check there to see if you have any devices claiming COM1. After upgrading the firmware, it should have said something to the effect of "done, now turn the altimeter off and back on". It is concerning that it did not do so for you. Do you have another machin on which to try everything out, just so you know everything is working? I'm getting pretty frustrated here. I have been corresponding with Jeff and he sent the Ozark link to get the firmware. I did that, or at least I think I did that, There was no message at the end of the process that said "Installation complete" or anything like that, it just stopped. I also un-installed v. 1.3.1. But still, no matter what I do, the instant I try to start Data Analyzer, I get the "cannot connect to COM1" error and there everything stops. If I try to check the firmware version, I get the "altimeter is not in the correct state" error. Where do I go from here? The first time was in Oct 2007 at RG3 in Price, MD. The second time was in Jun 2008 at NERRF4 at Pine Island, NY. I have attached the two .BIN files for you to look at. Any ideas? I have flewn it before both at MDRA (Price, MD) and METRA (Pine Island, NY) fields and was able to get a lock then. Yes, I have some kevlar-carbon on the outside airframe. From what you say, it sounds like the ARTS1 is functioning normally, and that the e-match that did not fire during flight was a good ematch. Perhaps a wire jiggled during flight and broke connection? There's a pretty violent jerk at apogee deployment. As for the GPS lock, do you have a recorded log file that I can see? The ARTS 1 did fire the apogee charge but did not fire the main charge. Afterwards I connected the ARTS1 in my altimiter compartment to DataAnalyzer with the e-match that didn't fire. I used the altimiter diagnostics to fire the main with the e-match that didn't fire in flight. This time the the ARTS1 fired the e-match. Any ideas? The ARTS1 did beep continuity at pad. This was the same flight where I did not get GPS lock (21JUN2008). I have attached the ARTS1 data from this flight although it only shows up to 80 sec...
